“It’s too hot to eat today!”

The “Mom- it’s too hot to eat!” conundrum…..

Autism, even with High Functioning kids, can put whole new definitions to the term “picky eaters”.  Add to that sensory issues, and Arizona heat… and just getting enough into my kids can be an incredible challenge.   Somewhere along the way I bought my first smoothie blender.    That first cheep model finally bit the dust, but not before being worth it’s weight in gold for helping me out of this predicament.

So, announcing- “Mom’s Sneaky, Practically Healthy, Smoothies!”
(all make one blender full, which usually makes 5 cups of smoothies)

Ingredients:

Basics to alway have on hand:
Vanilla Ice Cream
Yogurts with live cultures (I find even my lactose sensitive kids can handle yogurt- which I like for the pro-biotic and other benefits, adjust if needed for Lactose issues.)
— my favorite flavors for blending
pina-colada
peach
orange cream
multi-berry or blackberry
Powder breakfast drink mix (like carnation instant,)
vanilla and chocolate
milk (or coconut milk for lactose issues)
orange juice
mild fruit juice, such as passionfruit
Bananas
frozen fruits (or fresh, when in season)
peach
blueberries
raspberries
blackberries

Specials:
frozen coconut custard (instead of ice cream, for Lactose issues)
oreo cookies or crumbs
powdered cocoa
strawberries
